Less than 500nm to the Finish line in Guadeloupe

Peter has sailed the boat FAST to catch up to the back of the fleet and is estimated to finish on Wednesday!

Less than 500nm to the finish line!

Peter has sailed incredibly hard over the past week and a half to catch up to the back of the fleet and is closing in on his competitors!

I (Jane) arrived in Guadeloupe yesterday and the city of Saint Francois is a buzz with excitement around the Mini Transat! The Race Village is open and the tents and docks were full yesterday as the locals and visiting families explore the different sponsor tents and displays. One of the coolest things to hear is when a Mini finishes their race, they get towed into the marina and the crowd and fellow Mini sailors erupt with hoots and howlers, clapping and cheering for each and every sailor as they land on the pontoon. Before the sailors departed, they each selected a song that they wanted played while they are towed to the dock and that song, unique to each sailor, is blasted over the loud speakers for the whole marina and town to hear! The emotions of the sailors as they step off and hug their loved ones after 15-16 days at sea alone, is felt through the whole crowd.

With Mini sailors arriving at all times of the day, the crowds can be heard cheering and the sailor’s choice in song playing from far away, even at 2, 3, 4 in the morning, the sailors show up to the pontoons to show their support for their fellow sailor. The Mini Transat sailors are truly like family, all having just experienced something incredible, though they were sailing solo, this was a journey as a group that they will never forget.

For the finish of the second stage of the Mini Transat, Peter will sail between two inflatable marks about 1.5nm from the harbor channel entrance. Due to the finish being so far out, we are not able to see him cross the line from shore but we will be here on the pontoon with champagne and hugs to greet him. Keep following along as Peter has worked so hard and has closed in on the fleet, getting very close to even passing some boats in the race! The race is not over until it’s over and with more than 400nm to go, lots can still happen!

Cheers to Peter and pushing through the last several hundred of miles in this incredible race!
