MINI TRANSAT START POSTPONED

Due to Severe Weather Forecasted

Today 90 solo sailors were supposed to be departing the dock and starting the Mini Transat. However, due to the weather forecast the start will be delayed for an unknown amount of time. With strong winds and large seas forecasted off Spain’s Cape Finisterre mid week, just when the Mini fleet would be rounding this point, the race director decided to postpone the start. This area is well known for its rough conditions and with the strong low pressure system approaching, winds were going to reach 40 kts with waves over 10 feet high. While I have sailed Terminal Leave in conditions like this before and know this boat can handle it, from a risk management perspective across 90 boats it is the practical decision. This evening we will know if the race will start tomorrow or continue to be delayed. Stay tuned!

When we do start, follow the race here!

Boat Christening

On Saturday, we officially christened Terminal Leave! With friends and family present, it was a wonderful day and I am grateful for everyone who was able to attend. Over the past three years I have sailed over 8,000 nm on this Mini and plan to sail many more. This was an excellent way to officially name the boat and show off her new look.

Thank you to everyone who traveled far to support me at the start of this race! (All Photos: Manon Le Guen)

I was honored to have Bernard Jammet, an owner of Fawcett Boat Supplies, travel from Annapolis to christen Terminal Leave. Bernard is one of the main reasons this campaign has been successful. From the very beginning, he believed in my mission to race in the Mini Transat and raise awareness for U.S. Patriot Sailing. He opened the doors to Fawcett for me in Annapolis, provided a ton of essential equipment, and connected us with additional technical sponsors. I am honored to represent Fawcett Boat Supplies in this international event and cannot wait to bring Terminal Leave back to Annapolis afterwards.

As most of you know by now, Jane has been a critical part of this campaign. She has spent the past two weeks in France helping with the final preparations

Thank you to my mother (Debbie) and sister (Lyndsey) for your support and for joining us!

My cousin Amy and her husband David hit joined us from Annapolis as well. Thank you for supporting all of my sailing over the years!
