Day 8 of the Mini Transat

Less than 600nm to the finish of Leg 1!

All these beautiful images by Manon Le Guen from the departure from the pontoon and the start of the race. Enjoy!

The start of the Mini Transat went smoothly for Peter on Monday 25 September. He had a great start, good speed off the starting line, a strong position in the fleet and with speed. Just before go, Peter unfurlers his Code Zero sail and takes off! You can re-watch the start at the link below, you can skip ahead to 1:17:00 to see the start or watch the whole thing to see the fleet!

Peter is easy to spot with his red and white stripped jib and blue mainsail! The new hull wrap and sails have made quite the impression on the fleet. A huge thank you again to Fawcett Boat Works for their support, we are proud to represent them and US Patriot Sailing in the Mini Transat!

While the first 7 days of the race were plagued with light, shifty winds, the breeze has finally filled in and the fleet has taken off! Currently racing off the coast of Portugal, Peter is averaging around 8 knots of boat speed, a welcomed speed from his previous 24 hour average of 2.3 knots. With under 550nm to the finish of Leg 1 for Peter, routing shows him arriving Sunday evening in Santa Cruz de la Palma, Canary Islands. I was originally going to fly to La Palma on October 2nd but have moved my flight to later this week to be there longer while Peter is on shore to help with any projects or repairs.

Thank you to everyone that is following along and cheering Peter on! I know we are grateful for the community that has rallied behind him and he is proud to represent the USA and U.S. Patriot Sailing. Your donations to support this campaign are still needed, with changes in flights, bringing home several (six) checked bags worth of Peter’s equipment and all his freeze dried food (45lbs worth!) for the Leg 2 of the race, the additional unplanned expenses have added up quickly. Any support is greatly appreciated! Please click the Donate button below to support!

While we have some awesome sponsors, we still need your support to finish this mission. Every donation helps, THANK YOU!

If you are able to help, please consider donating through U.S. Patriot Sailing for a tax-deductible donation or through our GoFundMe page.
