Experience the Challenge of my Mini Transat Race

Lots to hear and see in podcasts, a video, and an article!

Listen to episode 10 of The Mini Transat Mission podcast where Jane and I discuss the second leg of the race. I explain how the rudder broke and how the repair process happened. We cover what I experienced on the race course and Jane’s perspective from following the tracker and coordinating the rudder repair.

Watch this video of my experience in Cape Verde where I met Alex Guidetti from Winded Voyage Sailing YouTube channel. He let me borrow his phone to call Jane and sat down with me for a few minutes to discuss the damage.

Tip & Shaft: Check out this Mini Transat analysis of the race results from a weekly edition of this French sailing media site.

Marked by speed records, a low number of retirements and an international podium, the 24th edition of the La Boulangère Mini Transat was won in the proto class by Federico Waksman and in the series by Luca Rosetti. Tip & Shaft reviews the race with organiser Emmanuel Versace, weather consultant Christian Dumard, coaches Damien Cloarec (Roscoff) and François Jambou (Concarneau) and architect David Raison.

The race might be over but there is still a lot going on with this campaign! Jane and I are in Guadeloupe and getting ready to leave TOMORROW with Terminal Leave. We will be sailing the boat back to the US to bring the boat home. Over the next few weeks we will make our way to Florida. Then in the spring I will sail Terminal Leave back to Annapolis! We have plans to stop along the way and visit other towns along the east coast. If your yacht club, organization, or veterans group is interested in hearing more about this experience, please reach out to schedule a talk!

With the delivery quickly approaching, I will work on sending out the detailed after action review blog posts for leg 2 as soon as I can.
